Using innovative and sophisticated techniques, L&T builds all types of bridges and undertakes heavy civil construction works such as underground metro rail corridors docks, container terminals, wharves and berths, jetties (in open sea and inside harbours), breakwater and shore protection, intake structures, shiplift platforms and cassions.
It has the expertise to design special launching and erection techniques, including special systems formwork for concrete deck on top of steel and concrete structures. Jack-down systems are used for accelerated well-sinking. Techniques employed for bridge construction include Incremental launching, Segmental construction, Cables stay, Precast, prestressed concrete, Steel, Concrete composite construction. For tunneling, specialized methods like cut and cover construction using top-down or bottom-up methods and sophisticated Tunnel Boring Machines or Earth Pressure Balancing Machines are used.
