The airport constructed by our Buildings business vertical in Kannur is unique for its 3050 m long, table top runway that is India’s 4th largest that was laid by our Transportation Infrastructure business vertical. Spread over 10 lakh sq. feet, it is designed to handle up to 2,000 passengers with six aerobridges connecting to airside, with 48 check-in counters, 32 emigration counters, 16 customs counters, four conveyor belts and access control inside the terminal.
The project was one of its kind in the amount of bulk earthwork and blasting involved, and since Kerala receives copious rainfall during the monsoon, reinforced soil slope filling was done to the extent of 78 m to allow for take-offs and landings. The hydro pneumatic pumping and sewerage systems were designed and executed for the first time in India.
