The L&T-built Phase 1 of Terminal 2, Kempegowda International Airport was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 11th November 2022. Pivoted on the concept of a ‘terminal in a garden’, the architecture integrates several natural elements such as clay, bricks, bamboo, rattan, and extensive landscape, with sustainability principles woven into the design along with 100% usage of renewable energy. T2 features gardens in various constructs - hanging garden, calming garden, sunken garden, an artificial forest belt, rattan furniture and an expansive engineered bamboo ceiling and column wrappings, for which about 1,000 kilometers of engineered bamboo have been incorporated into the building interior.
Designed to serve up to 25 million passengers per annum, T2 is spread over 112 acres with a total built area of 2.86 million Sq feet and features 15 bus gates, 61 Check-in counters, 34 Self baggage drop counters, 36 departure immigration desks, 40 arrival immigration desks, 9 Baggage claim conveyors, 23 passenger boarding bridges and 11 Fixed link bridges. It certainly is a green landmark of the future!
The new terminal at Bangalore Kempegowda Airport is Terminal 2. It was established early in November, 2022, and began its operations in January, 2023. This terminal was constructed by L&T Construction and the terminal’s first phase is capable of handling twenty-five million passengers per year. The terminal has provisions for expansion in the future. Kempegowda International Airport terminal 2 is meant for the international & domestic flights. There are 95 check-in counters, 17 security check lanes, and a state-of-the-art baggage handling system for use in travelling.
Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 2 was constructed by L&T Construction, an engineering & construction contractor, part of Larsen & Toubro. The architectural typology of the terminal is inspired from the “Garden City” backdrop of Bengaluru with emphasis on green features for sustainable development and improving the overall passengers’ experience.
This integrated airport terminal is one of L&T Construction’s most prestigious projects and was an essential addition to the airport as it expanded the airport’s capabilities. Terminal 2 was officially launched in November 2022 and became fully functional in January 2023 as part of the airport’s development process.

It has features of the modern airport, including aerobridges and generous numbers of seats to accommodate the increasing number of passengers.
