We successfully commissioned India's first STATCOM, at NP Kunta in Andhra Pradesh, synchronizing it with the national grid. A Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is an innovative Flexible AC Transmission System device used in AC power transmission networks, to generate or absorb reactive power to ensure voltage control, dampen oscillation and improve grid stability. A big leap compared to available shunt compensating devices like SVCs, it eliminates the historical technical issues faced while integrating renewable energy sources like solar and wind generation with the established complex national grid. Our mandate included complete engineering, value chain management (involving a set of non-standard and highly customized products), design of electrical, civil, structural and mechanical systems for the valve hall, control room, HVAC and firefighting. The project also required turnkey solutions for EHV, MV and LT systems including four 33 MVA coupling transformers.
