Tirupati, a city well known for the Tirumala Venkateshwara Temple and often referred to as the ‘Spiritual Capital of Andhra Pradesh’ also has a first of its kind 4MWp Floating Solar PV project in the Rayalaseema region at the Kailasagiri Reservoir, Chittoor. The FSPV project is implemented under Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited covering a water area of 12 acres. The solar PV modules rest on HDPE float structures and the system is suitably stabilized to withstand water currents by adopting suitable anchoring and mooring techniques. The plant is expected to prevent evaporation of approximately 2.8 crore litres water annually and reduce the monthly electricity bill by approximately INR 70 Lakhs.
