India’s largest floating solar power plant is located in Omkareshwar. The power project is designed for a 600 MW output. The first phase of Omkareshwar Floating Solar Panel with a capacity of 90 MW began in August 2024, developed by L&T Construction. This plant is situated on the reservoir of the Omkareshwar Dam on Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh, and the power generated from here is produced by Solar Floating Photovoltaic Platforms. When completed, the plant will span 12 square kilometers, operate with high efficiency, and power more than 100,000+ homes. Also, it will reduce CO₂ emissions significantly, and hence, would go a long way in achieving India’s renewable energy targets.
The Omkareshwar Dam is on river Narmada in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Located close to the town of Mandhata, the project is used for both irrigation and hydroelectric power generation apart from hosting the world’s largest floating solar power plant being set up on the reservoir of the dam. This solar floating project is one of the elements developing the renewable energy sources in the region and contributes to India’s solar energy. This largest 600 MW largest floating solar project has been developed by L&T Construction. The first phase of Omkareshwar Floating Solar, with a capacity of 90 MW was commissioned in August 2024.
The total planned capacity of the Omkareshwar floating solar power project is 600 MW. The project will be developed in phases with the phase 1 capacity of 278 MW, and of this 90 MW was commissioned in August 2024 with significant contributions by L&T Construction. The project will be powering over 1 lakh+ homes in MP. Importantly, over 200,000 panels have been deployed on the river. The plant will be one of the largest floating solar power plants in the world, once completed, it will significantly contribute to the India's renewable energy targets.
The Omkareshwar Floating Solar Plant, located on the Omkareshwar Dam’s reservoir in Madhya Pradesh, will be one of the largest solar power plants in the world. With the massive capacity of 600 MW, this solar floating project stands higher than others when it comes to power and size. The first phase has already been commissioned with 90 MW, built by L&T Construction, and further phases are under process in expanding the capacity. The project aligns with India's renewable energy targets and offers a sustainable approach to power generation, with a substantial reduction in CO₂ emissions.
The Omkareshwar Solar Project is located in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, India. The Solar project has an impressive capacity of 600 MW. This will be one of the world's and India's largest floating solar power plants being built on the reservoir of Omkareshwar Dam on Narmada River.
