L&T is proud to announce the successful completion of Packages 7 of Mumbai Metro Line 3, contributing significantly to the Aqua Line. Mumbai, a city steeped in history and heritage, presented unique challenges for the construction of its first underground Metro corridor. The proximity to numerous heritage buildings and archaeological sites demanded innovative construction methods to ensure their preservation. In Package 7, we delivered a substantial 4.280 km section, including tunnels and three stations (MIDC, Marol Naka, and SEEPZ). This section is part of the 12.69 km stretch inaugurated on October 5, 2024, by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. With this launch, the Aqua Line's total length now extends to 33 kms, making it the fourth Metro corridor in Mumbai.
In Package 1, which is nearing completion, our expertise was instrumental in constructing four underground stations (Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, and Hutatma Chowk) and associated tunnels totaling 5.287 km, along with two tunnel sidings at Cuffe Parade. The construction of Hutatma Chowk Metro Station, situated beneath numerous heritage buildings, required innovative construction methodologies. We employed a first-of-its-kind micro blasting technique to prevent damage to these historic structures.
L&T's engineering and construction capabilities have been pivotal in shaping a modern, efficient transportation solution for Mumbai, enhancing connectivity and convenience for millions of commuters.
