We completed the Athikadavu Avinashi project on time, fulfilling a six-decade-long dream for farmers in the Erode, Tirupur, and Coimbatore districts in Tamil Nadu. This transformative project aims to provide drinking water, irrigation, and recharge ponds and tanks by diverting 1.5 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of surplus water from the River Bhavani at Kalingarayan Anaicut through a lift irrigation pumping system, significantly improving the groundwater table across the three districts.
The water will be distributed to 32 Public Works Department tanks, 42 union tanks, and 971 ponds, totaling 1,045 water bodies across the districts. Additionally, the project will irrigate 24,468 acres of agricultural land, enhancing the livelihoods of local farmers and ensuring sustainable water management in the region.
